For example — a 7,700 lb (3.5-ton) Z-type sheet pile driven to 65 ft (20 m) in medium-dense sand requires a minimum centrifugal force of approximately 115,500 lbs (515 kN). The SGV-80 (114,600 lbs centrifugal force) is the baseline selection for this profile.

For large-diameter casing piles commonly used on U.S. Federal bridge contracts — such as the 72-inch (1,829 mm) casings on the Sakonnet River Bridge — the SGH-4719 impact hammer was the selection at 869 ft-ton (89.3 ton.m) maximum energy. The combined approach — vibratory hammer for initial penetration, hydraulic impact hammer for final set — is standard protocol on major U.S. bridge foundation projects.
